Summary of L’Écuyer et al., 2025
This study follows young students over time to see how teacher discipline affects their behavior. It shows that when teachers use harsh punishment, students often become more aggressive. The study also finds that when students act out, teachers respond with stricter discipline. This creates a cycle where both sides keep reacting negatively to each other.
The study recommends using kind and supportive methods early in school. Teachers should build strong relationships and help students learn social skills. Schools should train teachers in ways to calm situations and avoid harsh punishment. This can help break the cycle and improve behavior over time.
