 Summary of Moran et al., 2024
This study reviews how teachers use restorative practices to manage student behavior. Instead of punishing students, teachers help them talk about problems and fix mistakes. At first, many teachers feel unsure, but with coaching and support, they learn how to use these methods well. Students take more responsibility, and classrooms become calmer and more respectful.
The study shows that restorative practices work best when schools provide training, leadership support, and enough time. Challenges like heavy workloads and testing pressure can make it hard to use these methods. Schools should treat restorative practice as a long-term system change, not just a quick fix. With proper support, these methods can reduce suspensions and improve relationships.
